Halloween Treats (without the Tricks)

Today’s Halloween is going to be different and weird, no doubt.
Here are a couple of ‘treats’ for you to have a look at, so that nobody can say that we have not done any Halloween-related activities this 2020 October 😉

  • You surely have read about all this before but, if you feel like brushing up your knowledge, see this interesting post about  The Origins of Halloween
  • This lovely Halloween song for kids can help you revise and learn some ‘spooky’ vocabulary
  • And… This 31st October is special for one reason: tonight here will be a Blue Moon. A blue moon only happens on Halloween approximately every 19 years! So don’t forget to have a look at the sky at night and check if the colour of the moon is a little bit more bluish than usual. And remember the English idiom «once in a blue moon«: a blue moon Samhain certainly only happens ‘once in a blue moon’.
  • Here is the wonderful song Blue Moon’ you must have heard a lot of times before. This is the original version by Al Bowlly, from 1936.

These are the lyrics:
Blue moon you saw me standing alone
Without a dream in my heart
Without a love of my own
Blue moon, you knew just what I was there for
You heard me saying a prayer for
Someone I really could care for
And then there suddenly appeared before me
The only one my arms will ever hold
I heard somebody whisper «Please adore me»
And when I looked, the moon had turned to gold!
Blue moon!
Now I’m no longer alone
Without a dream in my heart
Without a love of my own

Enjoy a quiet Samhain night!

Hi again!  By now most of you will have been in class and had some time to become familiar with the coursebook, the ‘technological’ issues and everything else. Those I have not met yet, please try to get updated on the book exercises and activities we have done in these past two weeks.

I expect you already have

1.  Your Open World Student’s book + class audios, answer key and scripts (Workbook optional)

2.  Your Educastur user name and password + your 365 account

and that you can access Teams without problems and join our «equipo» AnaCarmen B2.1. I will be periodically uploading the FILES you will need to study at home and do your homework to the section Archivos. From there you can easily download the files onto your personal device.

WELCOME!

You are all very welcome to this brand-new blog!

I hope that, in these difficult and uncertain times, this blog will help us to keep in touch.

This is the textbook we’ll be using:

Open World B2  First. Self-study pack (with answers, workbook and audio files). Cambridge University Press.

There is a pack whose book includes the section English for Spanish Speakers. This is its ISBN: ISBN 978-8-490-36910-4  Student’s Book with answers (English for Spanish Speakers)

There is another pack without this section, but which still includes the rest of components (answers, audio files and workbook). That one is fine too.

I expect to meet you regularly in the weekly lesson,  especially now that the number of hours of class per week at the school has been substantially reduced. The «new norm» contemplates more homework and self-study in order to meet B2.1 requirements, and part of it will involve working on online resources or on activities uploaded to certain online educational sites that our EOI will be using.

In order to GET STARTED, please read the information below attentively, visit the links, and make sure that, as soon as possible, you get both EDUCASTUR ACCOUNT and OFFICE 365 ACCOUNT details. You’ll need them in order to use some educational online tools and applications that our EOI will be offering throughout the school year, so it is compulsory for each and every one of the students to have their own accounts.
