\n\u2207\u00a0 \u00a0From <\/strong>OPEN WORLD-<\/b><\/span>\u00a0Grammar Reference p.217:<\/strong>\u00a0Relative pronouns and relative clauses. <\/b>Read the brief explanations that remind you of the difference between a defining and a non-defining relative clause<\/strong>, and then watch the Grammar on the Move video<\/b> on p.87<\/strong> -or the other way round, as you find most suitable-, before doing the two exercises on p.217<\/b>. Note that in ex.2 n\u00b04, the pronouns who\/that<\/em> can be omitted, as they are the object of the clause (this option is not in the key).<\/p>\n

Go back to Relative clauses p.87<\/b> and do from exercises 1 to 5 those we have not seen in class. Notice the use of whom<\/i><\/b>, which you might not have come across with till now.\u00a0In ex.4, sentence 5, both\u00a0who<\/i>\u00a0and\u00a0whom<\/i>\u00a0can be used with exactly the same meaning, being\u00a0whom<\/i>\u00a0the most formal option. In exercise 5 you will practise some expressions with\u00a0which<\/i>\u00a0and\u00a0<\/strong>whom<\/strong>;\u00a0<\/i>in these\u00a0<\/i>phrases only\u00a0whom<\/i>\u00a0is correct, but not\u00a0who<\/i>.<\/span><\/p>\n
