Exercises on articles. Key

In the last lessons at EOI we saw some photocopies about ARTICLES that some of you may not have if you did not attend our last classes. You will find the links to the exercises and keys above. You can also do the exercises in Open World Grammar Bank, page 213 -also seen in class- and check your answers against the key in the book.

If Articles are one of your weak points, do these exercises or go through them once more if you have already done so.

READING and LISTENING RESOURCES.

 • The link below is El País English edition. Get updated on the most relevant current affairs and the coronavirus crisis.

 • This second link is an eight-minute Ted Talk delivered by Bill Gates in 2014: «We are not ready for the next epidemic». Very interesting to see how clairvoyantly he predicted and described what a deadly threat a massive epidemic like the one we are suffering posed to our world.

That’s all for now.

Complaint email about a terrible holiday

Here you have some work, guys!

This link is a model sample of an article that answers the writing task posed on page 63 Open World:  Article: Terrible Holidays

What I would like you to write is a Complaint email. It will not be taken as compulsory work or part of your final mark. Take into account,  nevertheless, that there will not be much time left to go on as planned with the school year when we resume the lessons. There may be things in the syllabus we will not have time to see, including certain writing formats, so the more you do now, if you can, the better.

The links below are a chart of the Complaint layout (already seen in class) and an example of an email of complaint that you might be interested in reading:

This other link is the sample model of «A complaint email about a terrible holiday» we read in class some days ago, in case you have not got it. Read it before doing your writing and use it as a guideline:

Film Review

Hello again!

Please find below the task for the Film Review you can write and send me in whenever you have time and if you wish to do so.

Take note that the exercises I will be recommending are intended as extra practice and revision. Do not feel obliged to do them if for any reason you cannot do so.

Bear in mind, anyway, that once the lessons start again we will not have much time left to go over some of the language issues that the book contains, such as the Speaking and Writing Banks or the section for Spanish Speakers. These exercises are conceived as supplementary self- study material. Given the circumstances, it is advisable to take advantage of the resources Open World offers.

It is very likely that we won’t have much time either to do the Review and two other writings, as it was planned. I will consider the Review as optional practice, recommendable, above all, for those that have registered for Certificación.

I will keep guiding you through some resources I consider useful in the next few weeks, but you will not be specifically tested on them nor will they be part of the final mark. The end-of-year assessment will have to be adjusted to what we have seen in class up to now and what we will be able to practice when the lessons can be resumed. No worries about that!

You can send me your writings in word format via email to

Giselle

The most influential of all Romantic ballets, ‘Giselle’ was a huge success on its premiere in Paris in 1841, and has remained at the centre of classical repertory ever since. Choreographer Peter Wright’s haunting production for the Royal Ballet has received more than 550 performances since it had its opening night in 1985.
Watch this video of rehearsals for the 2015 production of Wright’s ‘Giselle’, with former Royal Ballet Principal Guest Artist Carlos Acosta in a memorable performance of Prince Albrecht and mesmerising Royal Ballet Prima Ballerina Natalia Osipova in the role of the young peasant girl betrayed by her lover.

Watch the video and do the gap-filling exercise below (pdf).
